We asked, you told us: Ads in One UI would stop you buying Samsung phones

While advertisements are what keep the web up and running, there aren’t too many people out there who like them. Thankfully, we can easily get a respite from ads by using our phones, most of which are ad-free (except for in browsers and apps). However, some companies put ads right into Android to help offset hardware costs. What if Samsung ads happened at that level?

Recent news suggests that Samsung is at the very least toying with the idea of pushing Android-based ads to some of its devices. There are theories that that is not the case, but Samsung refused to confirm or deny the rumor when we asked about it. So, for now, we’re going ahead and assuming that Samsung ads on its phones is, at the very least, a possibility.

That got us thinking about how you’d feel if you woke up and found ads littered across your Samsung phone? We put a poll in this article about the ad rumors to find out. We naturally assumed most people wouldn’t like it, but we had no idea how strongly our readers would feel about this.

Check out the results of the Samsung ads poll question below.

Samsung ads: How much do you hate them?

The question we asked for this poll was this: “Would you buy a Samsung phone with One UI ads? As we mentioned, we figured the vast majority of our readers would say “no, but it turns out that nearly everyone said that.

Here were the four possible answers to the question regarding Samsung ads:

  • Hell to the no.
  • Possibly; it would depend on the price.
  • Yeah, I don’t mind ads.
  • I’m not sure how I feel about this.

Check out the full results in the chart below:

As it appears, over 90% of Android Authority readers would simply refuse to buy a Samsung phone if it contained advertisements. Just over 5% of you would at least consider a phone with Samsung ads if the price was right.

Remarkably, there are still around 1% of our readers who just don’t care about ads. That must make browsing the web an easy experience at all times!

Read on to see what our readers had to say about this poll and the news surrounding the possibility of Samsung ads on phones.

Your comments

Remember that the main reason we would see Samsung ads on phones if it were to start happening is to offset hardware costs. That would (theoretically) make phones less expensive. With that in mind, here are some comments from our readers about this:

Nikolas Ostropolskiy:
What is there to offset?! Samsung has some of the most expensive devices on the market. Money grab is what they mean. Pennies of ad revenue from every user into the pockets of the corporate higher-ups. F*** that Samsung.

Louie Cafarella:
If this happens I’m officially making the move to OnePlus.

VJ:
Dear Samsung: Please don’t become Chinese crap. For your cheaper phones, maybe you could price them differently for the With and Without Ads versions and that should be explicitly known, so that people buying them know what to expect.

cfischer69:
And what about those of us who just bought A-series phones? Are they going to do the bait and switch and screw us with ads “tomorrow? I guess this means I’m never taking an update before letting it soak in the wild for a while first.

There you have it, folks. If you want to know how to stir up the pot with our readers, just mention Samsung ads on smartphones.
