We’ve recently heard rumors that LG could ditch the G series. Now, a recent report from the South Korean Naver News Agency backs up these rumors, claiming LG could release a brand new line of premium smartphones on May 15.

The report claims LG confirmed this rumor at a recent Korean telecom product briefing. LG allegedly revealed the new premium series’ release date and that it will tout 5G support thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7-series processors.

The Snapdragon 765 and 765G are the only chipsets in this line with 5G capabilities, so this new premium line would likely come with one of these options. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7-series SoCs are traditionally cheaper than 800-series processors, so LG’s upcoming phones might be more wallet-friendly than the recent Snapdragon 865-equipped LG V60 (review).

Apart from 5G support, we aren’t sure what else would make this new LG line of devices “premium” just yet. A previous report from Naver News Agency claimed it could tout LG’s dual-screen attachment, a 48MP primary camera, a 4,000mAh battery, and a screen size between 6.7 and 6.9 inches. Though all of these would be welcome additions, LG has not confirmed nor denied them yet.

What about you? What do you think LG would need to include in this new smartphone series for it to warrant the premium title?
