  • Epic is hosting the FreeFortnite tournament on August 23.
  • The tournament can be played across all platforms, including the iOS app.

In its latest dig at Apple, Epic Games is hosting a new Fortnite tournament on August 23 for “one more Victory Royale with friends across all platforms. The announcement of the cup comes on the back of Epic’s ongoing feud with Apple over the App Store’s alleged monopoly on payments.

Announcing the FreeFortnite tournament in a blog post, Epic said, “these are the final days of the entire Fortnite community’s ability to play together. The developer reiterated that iOS players would be “left behind on Chapter 2 – Season 3 as players across all other platforms advance to the new season launching on August 27.

Before that happens, Epic is giving Fortnite players across platforms, including iOS, a chance to battle together. If you already have Fortnite installed on your iOS device, you should be able to participate in the tournament. You can also install the game again via the App Store’s ‘My Purchases’ menu.

Meanwhile, Epic is giving away some cool prizes to winners of the FreeFortnite tournament. Select winners can get “one bad apple, aka the Tart Tycoon in-game costume (see image above) as well as a physical “Free Fortnite hat. The list of other prizes includes all non-Apple hardware:

  • Alienware gaming laptop
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S7
  • OnePlus 8
  • PS4 Pro
  • Xbox One X
  • Nintendo Switch

As a parting note in its blog post, Epic is also reminding iOS users that they should check this list of alternative Fortnite-compatible devices if they want to be able to play the next season of the game.
