Update, July 16 2020 (2AM ET): Realme confirmed plans earlier this week for ultra-fast charging, with an executive hinting at 125W speeds as well. Now, the company has officially revealed that it will offer 125W charging.
More specifically, the Chinese brand stated that its solution can go from zero to 33% in just three minutes when charging a 4,000mAh battery. Check out a clip of this below, courtesy of the firm’s Weibo account.
Realme didn’t clarify how long it will take to hit 100% capacity with this tech, but revealed that it supports PPS, USB-PD, and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge protocols.
And we won’t have to wait too long for the first Realme phone with 125W, as it confirmed plans to launch a 5G phone with the tech next month.
Original article, July 14 2020 (3:40AM ET): Forget periscope cameras and high-refresh-rate displays; the holy grail of smartphone design in 2020 is fast becoming charging speed. After Vivo’s Iqoo announced it would debut 120W charging support on future devices, yet another brand has joined the race.
Realme’s Xu Qi announced on Weibo (h/t: Gizmochina) that it too will debut a 125W charging solution on July 16. That number is sneakily hidden in the comment as a binary number. The date of the announcement will come just a day after its sister brand Oppo is set to announce its own 125W product.
A jump to 125W would nearly double Realme’s previous highest 65W SuperDart charging solution offered with the X50 Pro 5G. In our review, we found that the Realme X50 Pro 5G’s 4,200mAh battery took 30 minutes to fully charge using the 65W SuperDart charger.
While no Realme devices currently support 125W charging, Vivo has demonstrated that a 4,000mAh device can be topped up entirely in just 15 minutes with its 120W charging system.
We’re not expecting a new device from Realme this week though, but rather more details on how it plans to implement its rapid charging system in future devices.
