- A new Xiaomi patent has surfaced and it’s surprisingly detailed.
- The phone features a 108MP camera with an extendable lens.
- The display wraps around the phone, with a smaller display on the back under the camera.
A new Xiaomi patent has just leaked and it details a phone with a large 108MP camera. It also shows screens running almost all the way around the device.
The potentially upcoming Xiaomi phone with screen everywhere and a 108MP camera was discovered by TechiesBlog, and it looks like a pretty interesting smartphone.
Starting with the display, what makes this device stand out is the way it wraps around the front of the phone, actually reaching the back. There’s a small space, and then another screen actually starts. This second screen on the back could serve as a viewfinder, allowing the main camera to also serve as the device’s selfie camera. Having the device set up this way allows the front of the phone to feature a screen everywhere without needing a front-facing camera.
This isn’t Xiaomi’s first foray into a phone with a wrap-around display, as the Mi Mix Alpha looks to feature similar technology.
The other key part of this device’s design is the camera on the back. Rather than featuring multiple lenses and sensors, Xiaomi looks to be going with one very large lens. It’s 108MP with an extendable lens, which could allow for some pretty serious zoom. Of course, having a moving lens raises questions about water-resistance and durability. Until the phone is actually announced, we’ll have to wait and see if Xiaomi has a solution to those issues.
For a patent application, the photos are quite detailed, suggesting that this phone may be further along than a lot of leaks. Of course, since it is a patent, there’s a chance this phone never actually sees the light of day. Only time will tell, but hopefully, we hear more about the 108MP camera featured on Xiaomi patent soon, because it looks quite promising.
