- Xiaomi has confirmed magnetic charging for the Mi Band 5.
- Older Mi Bands required users to separate the band from the tracker in order to charge it.
Xiaomi gave us our first look at the upcoming Mi Band 5 just yesterday (June 8) and now the company has posted a slew of new teasers on its Weibo page, giving us a much better look at the design and features of the fitness tracker.
To start with, the Mi Band 5 will finally lose its age-old charging method. Up until now, Mi Band users have had to remove the pill-shaped tracker from its band housing to charge the device. But now, Xiaomi is finally adding magnetic charging to the Mi Band 5. As shown in the image below, you simply have to hook a small magnetic charger to the back of the new Mi Band, without having to separate the band and the tracker.
Besides magnetic charging, Xiaomi has also detailed some more upgrades and features headed to the Mi Band 5. As rumored before, the fitness band will get a 20% larger screen compared to the Mi Band 4. This is a welcome change as the screen area on the Mi Band 4 was quite small, and was flanked on both sides by thick bezels.
Xiaomi says it’s also upgrading the sensors on the Mi Band 5. Although it doesn’t specify which ones exactly, the teaser image tells us it could be the heart rate sensor. The company also claims that it’s bringing upgrades for sleep, stress, and respiratory health tracking.
Further, the new teasers confirm previously leaked Mi Band 5 features such as women’s health tracking and remote camera control, in addition to 11 sports modes. The company has once again detailed NFC support, however, global availability of the feature remains unconfirmed.
There’s also no mention of Alexa support in the teasers, so the feature may be absent altogether or reserved only for the global version of the Mi Band 5.
