As you can see, there’s plenty of movies on Disney Plus in Canada that are not available for subscribers in the US. If you are a Marvel movie fan, you can actually watch all three live-action Fantastic Four movies and nearly all the live-action X-Men films on Disney Plus Canada. You can also watch all of the Ice Age animated movies, the first three Home Alone movies, all three Night at the Museum movies and all of the Mighty Ducks films.
Why the differences in content?
So why is the Disney Plus Canada content different than what you get in the US? The major reason is licensing. Many television and streaming services made deals with Disney (and 20th Century Fox, which Disney bought in 2019) to show certain shows and films to be shown on their networks and streaming services before Disney Plus launched. As a result, some movies, like the Marvel X-Men and Fantastic Four films, were able to be streamed on Disney Plus in Canada. That content is not available to license yet in the US.
The good news is that Disney will likely add Disney Plus content in Canada to the US version, and vice-versa, over the coming months and years. For example, National Treasure and John Carter, which are both available on Disney Plus in Canada, will be added to the service in the US in just a few weeks.
So that’s what’s missing on Disney Plus Canada and what’s added to the service compared to what US subscribers can stream. The good news is the service remains excellent, regardless of where you live.
