While the smartphone industry has certainly been turned on its head due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still expect that most of the major flagships will launch this year. Theoretically, that includes the OnePlus 8T, the iterative upgrade to this year’s OnePlus 8 series.
As of now, we know close-to-nothing about the OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro, but we know enough about the history of OnePlus phones and its current lineup to have an idea of what could possibly be on the way. We summarized our hopes in this article and included a poll asking for your own thoughts.
Over 4,500 Android Authority readers took part in the poll, so we have a pretty good idea of what you want to see most in the OnePlus 8T — and what you are less concerned about. Check out the full results below!
OnePlus 8T: What you want to see
In our OnePlus 8T article, we listed out seven specific features we want to see. We included all seven of them in the poll and also threw in a “something else choice as a catch-all for anything we missed. Here are the eight choices:
- Wireless charging on OnePlus 8T
- No gimmicky camera
- 512GB storage option
- All colors at OnePlus.com
- Less curvy display
- Similar (or lower) pricing
- Display cutout removed
- Something else

While a lot of these choices come out neck-and-neck, it does illuminate that certain things are more important to you than others. For example, a similar or lower price for the OnePlus 8T is far more important to most of our readers when compared to being able to get all the colorways from OnePlus.com or even the option of getting a 512GB version.
Our chart does make it very clear though that one of the most divisive aspects of the OnePlus 8 series — the introduction of a display cutout — still doesn’t sit right with many of our readers. Although pricing was marginally more important, there’s no other feature on the list that comes close to the hope that OnePlus ditches the cutout.
As usual, the OnePlus 8T chart above only tells part of the story. Let’s read some of your comments.
Some of your comments
OnePlus phones are some of the most popular products we cover. As such, it shouldn’t be surprising that our readers are very passionate about the OnePlus 8T and what it might or might not bring to the table.

All about the display for me. Bring us a FLAT display to the TOP OnePlus phone, already
My suggestion to OnePlus is: don’t do it. I’d rather have the OnePlus Nord come out in July and have the company spend about 10-11 months figuring out how to make a better flagship series, with more souped-up cameras. After all, if the OnePlus 8T series was made to bring the latest tech advancements, six months is way too little time to justify a minor upgrade.
Personally, my biggest wish is a slightly smaller phone overall. Next would be 512GB followed by a different front cam than a hole punch, even a teardrop would be better IMO (and easier to hide via software notch).
We expect the OnePlus 8T series to land sometime this Fall, maybe in October if things go well. In the meantime, there will likely be lots of leaks and rumors starting up over the coming months, so stay tuned.
