- After being banned by the Indian government, TikTok’s parent company is expecting to lose $6 billion.
- TikTok was one of 60 apps banned due to Chinese links.
TikTok parent company ByteDance Ltd. is expecting to lose an absurd amount of money as a result of being banned in India.
A recent report from Caixin (via The Economic Times) claims that the firm expects to lose a staggering $6 billion dollars as a direct result of the India ban.
Of course, TikTok is only one of around 60 other apps with Chinese links banned by India for “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.
The Chinese tech firm ByteDance also makes apps like Helo, which is an extremely popular social media app available in languages like Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and more. It was also listed on the apps banned by India, which could also be a reason that the company is anticipating losing so much money.
At this point, we haven’t heard anything about how other application makers are preparing to deal with the ban. We also haven’t heard how much revenue other firms are expecting to lose.
While it may be tough for India to enforce the bans, it does appear as though TikTok’s parent company is hunkering down and preparing for the worst. After all, that’s a tremendous loss of revenue that the company is expecting to take.
