Earlier this week, OnePlus finally took the wraps off its two latest smartphones: the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Although the two devices look very similar this time around, there are definitely some notable differences between them. For example, the Pro variant has an IP rating, wireless charging, a 120Hz display refresh rate, a 1440p screen, and more features that the vanilla OnePlus 8 just doesn’t have.
Of course, with those extra perks comes a rise in pricing, making the OnePlus 8 Pro the most expensive phone from the company yet. We wanted to see how Android Authority readers felt about this new sure-to-be-popular device, so we ran a poll on the matter. It turns out the majority of you feel pretty positive about the phone — except for one major aspect that you really hate.

The OnePlus 8 Pro poll results
As you can tell from the chart above, more than half of poll responders gave the OnePlus 8 Pro five or four stars, indicating “It’s the best, I love it” and “It’s pretty great” respectively. By contrast, less than a quarter of responders only think the phone is worth three stars (or “It’s OK”) and the group of people who gave it just one or two stars total is even less than that.
If you total up everyone who gave the OnePlus 8 Pro three stars or more, you find that about 78% of Android Authority readers like this phone. That’s pretty notable when you consider that, leading up to the launch of the Pro, lots of readers were complaining about the display cutout, the curved screen, and a few other issues.
However, one aspect of the phone stood out the most as being problematic for our readers. Check out some choice selections below to see what we mean.
Some of your comments
Time and time again on Facebook, Twitter, and our own site, the comments about the OnePlus 8 Pro gravitated towards one major aspect of the phone: its price. People had some good things to say about the design and features, but comments about pricing seemed to outweigh all else.
Check out some choice highlights below.
Baraa Modallal:
Just another mediocre expensive company, nothing special anymore.
Dustin Brindley:
I’m really happy for their success in the market, but a starting price almost 300 dollars more than I paid for my OnePlus 6…no thanks. That price with no expandable memory is just absurd. Wireless charging just doesn’t interest me and that’s also adding to the price. No UFS 3.1 and no headphone jack…also a problem. Screen-on-time has been unimpressive on the last few OnePlus phones and I imagine this one is going to be even worse.
Saurav:
The iPhone SE 2020 is the new flagship killer.
SxJ7:
Still better priced than Samsung for the features.
Lyes Allouche:
I’ll give it 4/5 cause besides the price everything about this phone is excellent.
Ø£Øمد الخولي:
If you compare the OnePlus 8 Pro to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra it seems a better option. On the other hand, compared to the OnePlus 7T Pro it seems overpriced for the value added!
Judging from comments such as these, fans just aren’t happy with how OnePlus has now officially stepped away from its old “Flagship Killer” mantra to plain ol’ flagship, now. It will be interesting to see what happens with the OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 8T Pro that will likely land later this year, not to mention the budget-oriented OnePlus Z, about which we’ve heard plenty of rumors.
The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are currently in the pre-order stage at OnePlus.com. The phones will go up for general sale on April 29.
