  • Samsung now provides customer service to India through WhatsApp.
  • Locals can message 1800-5-SAMSUNG for technical help and more.
  • The move should help customers stay at home during the pandemic.

It’s not very practical for Samsung to offer in-person support during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the company is responding in kind by making remote help that much easier for some of its customers.

The tech giant has started offering support through WhatsApp to customers in India for any product offered in the country, whether it’s the latest Galaxy phone or a washing machine. You can ask for technical support, check the status of a repair, find service locations, or request installations and demos for newly bought devices.

Help is available by sending a message to a dedicated WhatsApp support number (1800-5-SAMSUNG, or 1800-5-7267864) between 9AM and 6PM local time any day of the week. Samsung hasn’t said if it will offer help via WhatsApp in other countries.

It’s a logical move for the company. India is WhatsApp’s largest market, with over 400 million users as of July 2019, and the messaging software is used for everything from day-to-day business through to disseminating political information (and misinformation). This brings Samsung help to a platform many people are already comfortable using, and could help keep face-to-face support to a minimum.
