Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 price leak points to sticker shock

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 leaks point to a similar price as the first Galaxy Fold.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is one of the more eagerly anticipated devices of the year, marking the second generation of the firm’s foldable phone initiative. We’ve already heard rumors about the new foldable’s screen tech, and now we’ve got word on pricing and camera information.

Display industry expert Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, has made several more claims on Twitter. Young says the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will have a price of between $1,780 and $1,980, which means it’s either $200 cheaper or the same price as the original Fold.

It would be a little disappointing if we aren’t seeing a Galaxy Fold 2 with a significantly cheaper price. There was an expectation that new generation foldable phones would be cheaper as the tech and production methods mature. But the display industry executive rightfully notes that Samsung is adding better screens, an S-Pen, 5G, and a higher resolution camera.

Speaking of the camera system, Young asserts that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will offer a triple camera setup. The executive says you can expect a 12MP/12MP/64MP trio, presumably meaning a 12MP main shooter, 12MP ultra-wide camera, and 64MP telephoto sensor. This would be in line with the Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen apparent Galaxy Fold 2 leaks from Young either. The executive previously claimed it would offer a 120Hz main screen with a punch-hole cutout, an S-Pen, and an August launch date.

Either way, it looks like the new foldable could be a major improvement over last year’s model. Curious about what we want to see from the Galaxy Fold 2? Then read our wishlist over here.
