- Samsung is reportedly starting production of new foldables in August.
- So you might have to wait a while after the early August event to get your hands on them.
Samsung is widely expected to launch the Galaxy Fold 2 alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series on August 5 or thereabouts. But the firm is also working on a Galaxy Z Flip 5G, tipped for a reveal at the same time.
Now, display industry insider Ross Young has suggested that Samsung’s new foldables won’t be available in early August. More specifically, Young says production will only start in earnest from August, predicting late August or September availability as a result. Check out the tweet below.
Production really not starting till August. Almost none in July. Gonna be a late August or September launch. UTG volumes constrained until 2021, so order either early.
— Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) June 16, 2020
It seems like the chief reason for the delay is the ultra-thin glass (UTG) technology, with the executive pointing to low volumes being a challenge. Young adds in a later tweet that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G will likely be released later than the Fold 2 as well. Either way, we hope Samsung is able to keep up with demand for both foldable phones when production is eventually underway.
We’re definitely looking forward to the Galaxy Fold 2, as Samsung is set to bring a host of improvements and additions to the foldable. The new device is tipped to pack the Galaxy S20 Plus camera setup, a 120Hz main screen, and the aforementioned UTG tech on this display.
