Samsung Galaxy A41 European pricing and release information announced

The Samsung Galaxy A41.Samsung Japan

Update: April 10, 2020 (5:00 PM ET): Samsung just announced the Galaxy A41 European release and price information. The device will retail for £269 (~$335) in the UK and €299 (~$327) in Germany. It will be available for purchase in Germany this May, but all we know about the UK variant is that it “will be available in the coming months.”

Oddly enough, the new press materials make no mention of this budget handset’s biggest selling point: IP68 water and dust resistance. Though it’s technically possible, we don’t think Samsung would omit the feature from European devices. We’ll just have to wait for the device to hit the shelves to find out.

Original: March 19, 2020 (7:57 AM ET): The Galaxy A series has rejuvenated Samsung’s mid-range offerings, finally delivering plenty of bang for your buck. Samsung isn’t stopping there though, as it’s just announced the Galaxy A41 (h/t: GSMArena).

Probably the biggest selling point for the phone is that it offers IP68 water and dust resistance, which is a rarity in the mid-range segment. In fact, it’s not unheard of to find flagship phones without the feature either. Nevertheless, this means you should be able to immerse the device in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.

The Samsung Galaxy A41 also seems to deliver in the camera arena, packing a 48MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 5MP depth sensor. Selfies are handled by a 25MP camera in the waterdrop notch.

The rest of the phone is distinctly mid-range at best, as we’ve got a competent but budget-focused Helio P65 chipset, according to GSMArena. Other noteworthy core specs include a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED screen, in-display fingerprint sensor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 3,500mAh battery with 15W charging.

Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy A41 only seems to be available in Japan via the Docomo network and retailers. Samsung Japan confirms that the phone will be released in June 2020, although there’s no word on pricing. For what it’s worth, the Galaxy A40 reportedly launched at €249 (~$268) in Europe.

It won’t be the only water-resistant budget phone in 2020, as the Sony Xperia 10 II was announced earlier this year as well. Sony’s phone delivers an IP68 rating, a triple rear camera setup (including a telephoto lens), and a Snapdragon 665 chipset for €369 (~$398).
