  • Oppo has announced the global versions of the Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro.
  • Both phones are similar internally with minor differences in size and cameras.
  • The Reno 4 Pro will launch in India in August for Rs. 34,990.

The Oppo Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro global variants are now official. The two mid-range devices were launched alongside the Oppo Watch.

Don’t draw any conclusions based on the “Pro suffix here. Both phones feature entries in the compromises column.

Oppo Reno 4 Pro and Reno 4: Specs

For one, the Pro is slightly smaller and lighter than the Reno 4, but sports a 6.5-inch 2,400 x 1,080 AMOLED display. That panel also gets the 90Hz refresh rate treatment too. The Reno 4 settles for a 6.4-inch 2,400 x 1,080 AMOLED but does get a flat display instead of the Pro model’s curved edges.

Internally, the Reno 4 Pro packs a 4,000mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging support. Oppo claims some brisk charging times of flat to 100% in under 40 minutes. The Reno 4 packs a slightly larger battery though at 4,015mAh which can be topped up using Oppo’s 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0 solution. It’s not what we’d call slow but a far cry from the company’s other charging solutions.

As for imaging, the Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro largely share the same camera array. Headlining on both is a 48MP Sony IMX586 snapper with OIS. It’s joined by an 8MP wide-angle sensor and a 2MP macro snapper. While the Reno 4 features a 2MP depth sensor, the Pro model sports a 2MP monochrome camera.

Up front, the Reno 4 has two selfie cameras mounted in a punch-hole, namely a 32MP snapper alongside a 2MP. The 32MP features as the only selfie camera on the Reno 4 Pro.

Internally, it’s a case of spot the difference again between the two devices. Both phones sport the Snapdragon 720G chipset with 8GB of RAM and 12GB of storage. Buyers would’ve probably would’ve preferred if Oppo retained the Snapdragon 765G used in the Chinese version.

Both phones also feature some creature comforts, including an in-display fingerprint sensor, a headphone port, and a microSD card slot. Dual SIM slots are also present while ColorOS 7.2 running atop Android 10 is the operating system of choice for both models.

Indian buyers can snag the Oppo Reno 4 Pro 8GB/128GB model from August 5 for Rs. 34,990 (~$470). For what it offers, it may well be a tough sell in a country bursting with alternatives.

The Reno 4 Pro is also a fat premium over the Rs. 29,990 Reno Pro 3 which debuted with a Helio P90, 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, a 4,025mAh battery, and a 64MP primary shooter. Even the 256GB storage version can be had for less.

If you’re looking for an adventurous colorway, you’d be gravely disappointed. Oppo’s offering the Pro in just two shades: Starry Night and Silky White.

Meanwhile, the vanilla Oppo Reno 4 is now listed for preorder on Oppo Thailand’s site for the equivalent of around $385, but there’s no word on a broader release just yet.
