OnePlus owners can now play PUBG at a higher frame-rate

OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 8 screens

  • OnePlus has confirmed that PUBG now supports 90fps gameplay on some of its phones.
  • The list of compatible phones includes the OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7T series, and OnePlus 8 series.
  • The option is exclusive to OnePlus devices until early September.

We’ve seen plenty of Android manufacturers offer higher refresh rate screens on their recent phones, delivering a smoother experience when swiping through menus and in compatible games.

Games need to specifically support these high refresh rates though, and now OnePlus has announced that its phones will be first to support mega-popular title PUBG at 90fps. More specifically, the Chinese manufacturer says the OnePlus 8 series, OnePlus 7T series and OnePlus 7 Pro will all support the higher frame-rate from today (August 6).

The support for 90fps gameplay is exclusive to the aforementioned OnePlus phones until September 6, and OnePlus says the support excludes China, Japan, and Korea.

The two companies say you should be able to benefit from the higher frame-rate when running, panning, while using the scope, and when looking for other players at a distance.

This isn’t the first time we heard of PUBG gaining 90fps support either, as Qualcomm confirmed at the Snapdragon 865 reveal that it was working with the developers to implement the higher frame-rate. It’s also interesting to note that the OnePlus Nord isn’t supported, despite touting a 90Hz refresh rate as well. Presumably the company felt that the Snapdragon 765G processor wasn’t beefy enough to run PUBG at a stable 90fps.

The PUBG support at 90fps also comes a while after Epic enabled 90fps support in Fortnite on Android, with the OnePlus 8 series supporting it first. Hopefully we see both PUBG and Fortnite support 120fps gameplay on the OnePlus 8 Pro.
