The newly revealed OnePlus 8 Pro definitely looks different than its predecessor from 2019, the OnePlus 7T Pro. These devices may look similar, but what about inside? Is there really that much that’s new on the OnePlus 8 Pro compared to the previous model? Let’s take a look at the OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 7T Pro.

OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 7T Pro design and display
Looking at the front, the OnePlus 8 Pro is clearly larger than the OnePlus 7T Pro. The display is 6.78 inches compared to the 6.67-inch screen on the older phone. The OnePlus 8 Pro is also a bit less rounded compared to the 2019 7T Pro. However, the biggest difference is that the OnePlus 8 Pro returns its front-facing selfie camera to its display. The punch-hole camera sensor is played on the top left side.
The OnePlus 7T Pro famously used the pop-up selfie camera in order to have a higher screen-to-body ratio. It’s looking like the pop-up selfie camera trend is pretty much over before it really began.
The AMOLED display on the OnePlus 7T Pro supports a 90Hz refresh rate, while the OnePlus 8 Pro jumps that support up to 120Hz. This makes it great for playing games and scrolling around the user interface. Furthermore, the OnePlus 8 Pro’s display is actually the best we’ve ever tested.
The back of the OnePlus 8 Pro includes basically the same rear-camera setup in the top middle, but there are a couple of extra sensors placed to the left side of the main camera bank this time. The new OnePlus logo design is also on the OnePlus 8 Pro, on the bottom of the device.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 7T Pro processor and memory
The OnePlus 8 Pro has the fastest mobile processor you can currently get, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. The OnePlus 7T Pro has last year’s champion, the Snapdragon 855 Plus. The OnePlus 8 Pro comes in 8GB and 12GB of RAM models, while the OnePlus 7T Pro was only sold with an 8GB model. The RAM on the new model uses the faster LPDDR5 memory, compared to the LPDDR4X RAM on the OnePlus 7T Pro. The OnePlus 8 Pro has 128GB and 256GB storage options, while the OnePlus 7T Pro just has the 256GB storage model. Both phones use the fast UFS 3.0 standard.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 7T Pro cameras
The OnePlus 8 Pro has a sizable camera upgrade. While both phones have a 48MP sensor as their main camera, the OnePlus 8 Pro boosts its wide-angle camera to 48MP as well, compared to the 16MP wide-angle sensor found on the OnePlus 7T Pro. The telephoto sensor on the OnePlus 8 Pro is 12MP, but it still outputs 8MP images. The OnePlus 7T Pro has an 8MP telephoto sensor.
In addition, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a 5MP color filter, which is used to take images with different spectrums of light. This means images taken with the filter can radically change the color of the objects that appear in your photos. As we mentioned, the 16MP front-facing camera on the new phone is on the top-left side of the front display. The OnePlus 7T Pro’s 16MP front-camera used the pop-up design.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 7T Pro battery
The OnePlus 8 Pro has a much bigger 4,510mAh battery compared to the 4,050mAh battery on the OnePlus 7T Pro. Both phones use the Warp Charge 30T tech for fast charging. The OnePlus 8 Pro should charge up to over half its capacity in just 23 minutes.
However, the OnePlus 8 Pro beats the OnePlus 7T Pro hands down when it comes to wireless charging. The OnePlus 7T Pro didn’t support wireless charging at all. If you purchase the optional Warp Charge 30 wireless charger, the OnePlus 8 Pro will charge wirelessly at about the same speed as its wired charging rate. There’s also support for reverse wireless charging for the OnePlus 8 Pro, but it’s pretty slow at just 3W.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 7T Pro other features
Both phones have an in-display fingerprint sensor. Both also use OnePlus’s OxygenOS and Android 10. There’s not a ton of bloatware on OnePlus 8 Pro, and it includes support for Dark Mode 2.0, which adds a dark mode to many popular apps that don’t natively support it. Finally, the OnePlus 8 Pro officially has an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, compared to no such rating at all on the OnePlus 7T Pro.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs OnePlus 7T Pro price
When it launched, the OnePlus 7T Pro had a starting price of £699 (~$762).  That price point, while still higher than previous OnePlus phones, still made the OnePlus 7T Pro more affordable compared to other flagship devices with most of the same specs. If you wanted to get the limited McLaren Edition, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, you had to pay much more. It’s sold by T-Mobile for $899.
The OnePlus 8 Pro is definitely much more expensive from the jump compared to the standard OnePlus 7T Pro. It starts at $899, and that may turn off many people who expect something with a lower price from OnePlus. However, compared to the normal price of Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Plus ($1,199), the OnePlus 8 Pro still offers a lot of value.
Will you be upgrading to the OnePlus 8 Pro if you have the OnePlus 7T Pro?
