OnePlus has traditionally offered a pop-up event in the hours after launching its phones, allowing fans to go hands-on with the devices and buy them early.
The company isn’t able to hold a physical event for the OnePlus 8 series due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s just announced an online pop-up event instead. This will take place on the official OnePlus website as opposed to a real-world venue in an actual city.
“As a part of the OnePlus Online Pop-up experience, users can visit the OnePlus official website and be the first to purchase and own the device of their choice from the OnePlus 8 series,” read an excerpt of a press release by the firm.
The company says a “special pop-up box” will be sent to buyers on April 15, which will include the OnePlus 8 series device and branded extras. There’s no word on the type of extras to expect, although our own C Scott Brown received a sandstone phone case, sketchbook, and OnePlus stickers at the OnePlus 6T pop-up event.
OnePlus cautions that the pop-up boxes will be available in limited quantities across Europe on a first-come first-serve basis. More information will be revealed during the OnePlus 8 series live-stream on April 14. We’ve also asked OnePlus whether the boxes will be available in other regions (e.g. North America and India), and will update our article when they get back to us.
Both phones are confirmed to offer a Snapdragon 865 processor, 5G capabilities, UFS 3.0 storage, and LPDDR5 RAM. The OnePlus 8 Pro will also offer a 120Hz screen for smoother animations, while an MEMC chip will help boost the frame-rate of videos and games.
