  • Motorola’s new phone makes 5G more accessible in mid-range phones.
  • It also includes a 90Hz display, quad rear cameras, and even dual selfie cams.
  • It won’t be available in the US, but another lower-cost 5G phone is coming.

You won’t have to spend a small fortune on flagships like the Moto Edge Plus to get a Motorola phone with built-in 5G. The company has unveiled the Moto G 5G Plus, a mid-range device that should make the faster wireless technology more accessible.

The 5G data is undoubtedly the main draw, but this is a fairly powerful handset even if you’re ‘stuck’ with LTE. You can expect a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate (still relatively rare in this class), the Snapdragon 765 processor found in the regular Edge, dual SIM support, and a hefty 5,000mAh battery with 20W fast charging.

The rear cameras are relatively familiar and include a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro cam, and a 2MP depth sensor. Up front, however, is a first-for-Motorola dual-selfie system that includes a 16MP main sensor (tuned for low-light shots) as well as an ultra-wide sensor for group photos and scenic self-portraits.

The Moto G 5G Plus reaches Europe on July 8 starting at €349 (about $394) for a starter model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Spend €399 and you’ll get 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It’s also coming to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and “many other markets in the future, but don’t expect it to reach the US. You’ll have to make do with the Moto Z4 and its 5G Moto Mod for now if you want a cheap Motorola phone with 5G.

You won’t have to go without an affordable 5G phone for long if you do live in the US. Motorola has promised a “sub-$500 5G phone for North America this fall. The company isn’t providing more details than that, but it’s apparent you’ll get a different device.
