If the idea of voice assistants taking over the world is scary to you, now might be the time to look away from your screen. There could be more voice assistants than people in the world within a few years, according to a new study.
Juniper Research posted its findings, which examined the number of smart voice assistant devices that exist in 2020. The firm estimated how many there will be in 2024 based on the expected growth, and the numbers are actually pretty shocking.
According to the report, we can expect to see a staggering 8.4 billion voice assistant devices in the wild. By the end of 2020, the company expects there to be approximately 4.2 billion devices, which means the number will double over the next four years.
As expected, smartphones lead the charge for smart assistant-equipped devices. Just about every phone released comes equipped with either Google Assistant or Siri, and that shows no signs of slowing down. Even wearables are launching with voice assistants on board.
Additionally, the study says that voice assistants in vehicles and smart TVs will see the largest growth over the next few years as more companies include them in their devices.
It’ll be interesting to see whether these predictions come to fruition. It’s clear that smart voice assistants aren’t going anywhere, as more people grow accustomed to speaking to their phones, smart speakers, and other devices.
