Getting paid is everyone’s favorite pastime, and PayPal makes it easier than most platforms to get that money. Once you’ve created an account, all you need to do is give someone your email address to receive money on PayPal. Really, that’s it!

Ok, so there is a bit more to it than that, but the fact remains that it’s quick and easy to receive money on PayPal. Here’s everything you need to know.
How to receive money on PayPal
If you have a PayPal account and know your email address, then you already know how to receive money on PayPal. All you need to do is give someone your email address and they are able to send you money through PayPal.
In fact, you don’t even need a PayPal account for someone to send you money. You will need to create an account to claim it, but as long as the sender correctly inputs your email address as the recipient, the money will be waiting for you.

Obviously this method relies on another person actively sending you money, but there are ways to request money on PayPal as well. We’ll run through the steps for the web, but they’re virtually identical on the PayPal app.
Once you’ve logged in, click the Request button to the right of your PayPal balance. If you don’t see the icon you can also click Send & Request at the top of the page, then Request below that. We won’t cover it in this guide, but from the right side of this screen you can create an invoice, create a paypal.me link where people can send you money, or create a money pool.
But let’s get back to the task at hand. From the request screen, all you need to do is enter the other party’s email address and click Next. On the following screen, enter the amount and currency type, as well as a brief note outlining what the payment is for. The note isn’t required, but being straightforward means you’re more likely to get paid.
All that’s left now is to click Request Now at the bottom of the screen and wait for your payment. Here’s the process again written step by step.
How to receive money on PayPal

- Click the Request button on the right hand side.
- Enter the sender’s email address and click Next.
- Enter the amount, currency type, and (optional) a note.
- Click Request Now.
Are there PayPal fees for receiving money?
There is no fee involved for receiving money on PayPal for personal use within the US, but there is a fee when selling goods and services. In the US, that rate is 2.9% of the sale price plus $0.30 per transaction.
Receiving international payments on PayPal is also subject to certain fees for both personal and business transfers. This is typically 5% of the amount with a minimum fee of $.99 and a maximum fee of $4.99. However, this fee is paid by the sender rather than the receiver. Make sure you take this into account when asking someone to send money internationally on PayPal.
How long does it take to receive money on PayPal?
The answer depends on the source of the funding from the sender. If they’re sending from their PayPal balance or a debit/credit card, the payment takes just a few minutes. If the money is coming from a linked bank account, it can take 2-3 business days as it has to clear the bank.
As a result, it may not be faster to receive money on PayPal than via normal bank transfer in some situations.
