- GE Lighting is expanding its smart home devices beyond its smart bulbs in 2021, under the new Cync brand.
- It will add a smart indoor camera, fan switch, and outdoor plug to lineup of products.
GE Lighting has previously released smart bulbs and lighting products under its C by GE brand. However, in 2021, the company has decided to branch out beyond smart bulbs into other products. As part of its CES 2021 reveals, the company has announced it is ditching the C by GE brand in favor of the new Cync branding.

GE will roll out an update in March to its existing app with the new Cync branding. The new version of the app will allow smart bulb owners to preview color and brightness changes in their home by taking pictures of their rooms in the app. It will also allow them to control the new Cync smart home products that will launch later this year.
Cync Indoor Camera
Perhaps the biggest new product in the Cync family will be the upcoming indoor camera. The wired camera will include a couple of interesting features, one of which is a manual privacy shutter. It slides upwards and locks in place to cover the lens, and it also turns off the audio. This is handy for when homeowners don’t want to record every single thing in a room all the time. The indoor camera also has a microSD card port. It can store video taken from the camera so that users don’t have to subscribe to a cloud-based video storage service (although one will be made available as an option).
The Cync Indoor Camera will be released in May, but a price has yet to be announced.
Cync Fan Speed Smart Switch
Along with the Indoor Camera, GE Lighting will launch a new Cync Fan Speed Smart Switch. Using this device and the Cync mobile app, homeowners can control their ceiling fans from anywhere, and without the need of a hub. You can set your fans to rotate in four different speeds, and you can also schedule when the fans start up and stop. You can also time the fans to work with other Cync smart bulbs and products. The switch will also launch in June, but again no price has been announced.

Smart Outdoor Plug
Finally, GE Lighting will launch a smart outdoor plug. It features two power outlets and can be controlled by either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth wireless connections from the Cync app. It also supports voice commands via Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant. You will be able to use it to control outdoor pathway lights, holiday lighting displays, and more. GE Lighting says it is “weather resistant but there’s no IP rating listed. It’s due out in March, but no price has been revealed.
