Drone manufacturer favorite, DJI, has an announcement on deck. Scheduled for 6:30 pm on April 27th, the Up Your Game announcement teases a new drone. We think. There have been some rumors and leaks, leading us to believe the DJI Mavic Air 2 is about to hit store shelves.
This is an excerpt from our full analysis on our drone enthusiast website, Drone Rush, please visit the full article for all the details.
DJI does surprisingly well at keeping their announcements a secret, so we can never be certain, but it is absolutely time for a version 2 of the Mavic Air from 2018. The leaked images portray a device that is more like the modern “Mavic” drone than anything, perhaps we will see the long rumored DJI Mavic. That’s right, no trailing name, just Mavic. A machine that would sit in between the Mavic Air and Mavic 2 Zoom as a replacement for the 2016 Mavic Pro.
No matter the name, rumors have us expecting a 3-axis stabilized 4K camera, at 60fps. We have to assume 30 minutes of flight time, and a good set of obstacle avoidance sensors to keep you safe in the sky. We’ll have to stick with speculation and hopes for Ocusync technology, but we’re pretty sure that this will be DJI’s first consumer drone with ADS-B built into the controller. A welcome safety feature.
We’ll have all the details coming soon, for now, we think you should save up anywhere from $700 – $900 dollars for this new drone. As much as we’d love to see a $600 price, it only makes sense to launch a new machine squarely in between the $400 DJI Mavic Mini and the $1200 DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.
Be sure to stay tuned to Drone Rush for further speculation and all the details. Then be ready for the full launch in the evening of the 27th.
