The Poco F2 Pro marks the return of the Poco name to the flagship segment, with the Xiaomi-backed brand delivering a more affordable flagship phone.
Xiaomi said the Poco F2 Pro will retail for €499 (~$559) in Europe, but it looks like the company may have been less than forthcoming about actual pricing. According to NotebookCheck, the phone’s real price actually starts somewhat higher.
The outlet noted that Xiaomi Germany’s website lists the Poco F2 Pro starting price at €599 (~$671). It’s also worth noting that Xiaomi Spain currently sells the base model for €529 (~$592), but machine-translation suggests that the €499 price will go into effect on June 6. In fact, the Poco F2 Pro listing on the Xiaomi Spain website briefly shows the €499 price while loading before quickly switching to €529.
Xiaomi never intended to sell the device for €499 on its own website, according to NotebookCheck, saying that this price referred to “external channels selling the Poco F2 Pro. Then again, third-party retailer Gearbest currently lists the phone for €529.99, noting that the recommended price is €539.99.
It’s a bizarre turn of events, especially as Xiaomi only ever referred to a starting price of €499 during its online event and in marketing material. It would be very disappointing if the firm gave us a price that didn’t actually reflect reality.
We’ve contacted Xiaomi’s representatives for comment regarding the price changes and will update the story when/if they get back to us.
