Update: April 8, 2020 (11:05 AM ET): It was only yesterday that we heard Warp Charge 30 Wireless charging was coming to the OnePlus 8 series. Just over 24 hours later, more rumored details about a compatible wireless charger surfaced online. The folks over at TechDroider took to Twitter to share the charger’s potential features and price.
[EXCLUSIVE] OnePlus Warp Charge 30 Wireless Charger Full Features-

-There’s a Cooling Fan Inside
-AI Sleep Mode – Turns off Fan at Night

According to the tweet, the charger should tout a built-in cooling fan, an AI sleep mode that disables the fan at night, dust detection, and overheating protection. Serial leaker Evan Blass previously released images of the alleged OnePlus charger revealing what could be a fan around back, so it’s likely we will see this addition. It could come in at a pricey €70 (~$76), which is about how much the official Pixel Stand wireless charger costs.
TechDroider said in a later tweet that the design in its tweet is a concept image, so we don’t expect the charger will look like this. In fact, none of this information has been confirmed yet, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Original: April 7, 2020 (9:33 AM ET): We’ve heard murmurings for a while now that at least one device in the OnePlus 8 series is getting wireless charging. Now, the Chinese brand has indeed revealed that the technology is coming to the series, calling it Warp Charge 30 Wireless.
In a community post announcing the feature, OnePlus confirmed that it previously investigated wireless charging. But the firm explained that it “didn’t meet the same standards” as its wired fast charging solution.
“So now, with the release of the OnePlus 8 Series, we are excited to announce the first Warp Charge 30 Wireless,” a company representative wrote.
How does Warp Charge 30 Wireless work?
OnePlus says Warp Charge 30 Wireless offers charging speeds of up to 30W, adding that it’s capable of taking your device from 1% to 50% in 30 minutes.
The company claimed it’s using the mobile industry’s “first isolated charge pump” to deliver wireless charging that’s 97% efficient. But this pump is supposedly safer too, as it stops charging when it detects abnormal currents and voltages. OnePlus adds that the charger is able to communicate with the phone via a special chip to improve efficiency as well.
Fortunately, OnePlus says those wanting to use third-party Qi charging pads can do so too — albeit at a minimum speed of 5W.
“On top of that, if you are using a Qi wireless charger that supports a 10W EPP standard, you’ll be able to get 10W charging speeds for your OnePlus phone,” the brand explains.
News of the wireless charger comes a short time after serial leaker Evan Blass posted images showing an apparent wireless charging dock for the OnePlus 8 series. It’s believed that the OnePlus 8 Pro is the only device to offer wireless charging, while the regular OnePlus 8 is tipped to arrive with wired charging only.
Other officially confirmed OnePlus 8 series details include a 120Hz refresh rate (presumably for the Pro variant), a Snapdragon 865 processor, 5G, UFS 3.0 storage, and LPDDR5 RAM. Will the upgraded spec sheet be enough to entice OnePlus 7T series owners? We’ll have to wait until April 14 to get all the OnePlus 8 series details.
