HBO Max is the newest premium video streaming service that’s coming your way on May 27. Warner Bros. wants you to spend $14.99 a month to access a ton of classic and current movies and TV shows on the service, including Friends, The Big Bang Theory, The Matrix movies, the DC Comics movie library and much more. But is there a way to get HBO Max for free?
As a matter of fact, there are ways to get HBO Max for free, especially if you are an AT&T wireless, internet or TV subscriber. If you are not, there might still be a way to get the service for the price of nothing. Here’s what you need to know in order to get HBO Max for free?
Method 1 – HBO Max for free for current Charter HBO customers
Warner Bros. has entered into an agreement with the Charter cable TV service. People who are currently signed up to get HBO on their Charter cable lineup, or do so before May 27, will get HBO Max for free. Charter will also sell HBO Max access directly to new customers.
Method 2 – Sign up for AT&T Unlimited Elite wireless plan
The AT&T Unlimited Elite wireless plan for smartphones, which already offers free access to HBO, will now include HBO Max for free as well. The plan normally costs $85 a month for a single line, but there are discounts if you add more than one line to the the account.
Method 3 – Sign up for select AT&T TV plans
AT&T offers several ways to access live or on-demand TV through its DirecTV satellite service, the AT&T TV Now internet-based TV service, and its legacy U-Verse cable TV service. If you sign up for DirecTV Premier or the Spanish language Lo Maximo package (at $134.99 a month), or AT&T TV Now Max at $80 a month, you will get HBO Max for free.
In addition, if you are already signed up for AT&T’s U-Verse U400, U450, and U450 Latino packages, you will also get HBO Max for free (AT&T is no longer selling new U-Verse subscriptions). AT&T will also offer the streaming service for free for its upcoming AT&T TV Premier package.
Method 4 – Sign up for AT&T internet plan
You can sign up for an AT&T Internet 1000 plan (where it is available. It costs $49.99 a month for 12 months. With this plan you can get HBO Max for free.
Method 5 – Free one year or three-month trials for other AT&T TV packages
AT&T is offering one year of free HBO Max trials for new customers of its AT&T TV Choice, Xtra, Ultimate, Óptimo Más packages. New subscribers for DirecTV Choice, Xtra, Ultimate or Más Ultra packages can also get one year of the service for free. Current customers of those packages will get HBO Max free for three months.
Method 6 – One month free trial for other AT&T services
If you are signed up for AT&T Unlimited Extra, AT&T Unlimited Starter, or AT&T Mobile Share. you will get to trial HBO Max for free for a month. The same goes for customers who are signed up for any AT&T internet plan other than AT&T Internet 1000.
Not quite free – Sign up for HBO Now
This isn’t exactly free, but it’s worth noting here anyway. If you have already signed up for the current HBO Now streaming service directly, you will get full access to HBO Max, and all of its extra content, for no additional cost. This only works if you sign up directly for the service. If you use another method to watch HBO online, such as a “channel” via Amazon Prime Video, Roku or the Apple TV app, you won’t get access to HBO Max.
