You may have recently purchased an Amazon Fire TV streaming stick, or purchased a smart television with the Fire OS installed. You are likely ready to download some apps and put them to good use. But what are the best Fire TV apps to get for your new streaming device?

1. Amazon Prime Video

Of course, the biggest Fire TV app is for Amazon Prime Video. You will have to pay to get it, but once you do, you will be able to stream thousands of TV shows and movies, including original series like the hit superhero show The Boys. Amazon Prime Video also offers a limited number of live sports events as well. The truth is if you do own a Fire TV device, you have to get Amazon Prime Video.


2. IMDb TV

Along with Amazon Prime Video, the company also offers an ad-supported free streaming service, iMDB TV. Classic TV fans will have lots to stream on the service, and it also has some great older and even more recent movies to show. It even is starting to branch out into original content, starting with the new spy series Alex Rider, with more to come in 2021.

Amazon also happens to own Twitch, the game-oriented streaming service. You can watch live or archived “Let’s Play� videos from your favorite video game streamers. However, Twitch is not just for gamers; it also has other content you can watch as well. You can also support some popular streamers by subscribing to their channels.

Netflix is still the biggest premium streaming service, and you access it as part of the Fire TV apps lineup. Hulu’s biggest feature is that it lets subscribers watch new episodes of many current broadcast network TV shows from ABC, NBC, and Fox on-demand the day after they are shown over the air.  You can also watch lots of classic and more recent movies and TV shows, and you can stream a number of original movies and series, including the Emmy winning drama The Handmaids Tale. You can also sign up for Hulu Plus Live TV, which offers lots of live streaming cable TV channels, plus cloud DVR, for extra fees.


6. HBO Max

A recent addition to the Fire TV apps lineup is HBO Max. Not only can you watch all the current and library content from the HBO pay cable channel, there’s tons of other stuff to stream as well. News shows, anime, and classic TV series like Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are available. You can also watch a growing number of original series and movies. Best of all, you will be able to watch all of the Warner Bros theatrical movie releases on the service day-and-date with their theater releases from now until the end of 2021. That starts December 25 with Wonder Woman 1984.

Disney Plus is an ultra-affordable way to watch all of the Star Wars movies, all of Disney’s animated films, most of its live-action movies and TV shows, and of course most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Its original content is still on the low side, but you can now watch the first two seasons of the hit Star Wars show The Mandalorian. 2021 will be an even bigger year for the service, with several MCU series debuting, and much more.

You can do more with Fire TV apps than just watch movies and TV shows on your couch. The Peloton company recently launched its first TV-based app, and its currently a Fire TV exclusive. If you have a Peloton bike or treadmill, you can use them and watch the live or on-demand sessions on a much bigger screen now. There are also lots of exercise videos that don’t require any equipment.

Amazon recently launched a free news app, which allows Fire TV users to access live or on-demand from networks like ABC, CBS, Bloomberg, and many more. You can also access local TV news from 12 US cities, with nearly 100 more cities to be added in 2021. Best of all, you don’t need to download this app. It will appear as part of the Fire TV OS.
